The NGC Children’s Bocas Lit Fest Storytelling Caravan 2014

childrens-mascotDuring the entire month of April, in the lead up to the five-day Festival at the National Library in Port of Spain, there will be storytelling events every weekend for children aged 6 to 13. Dates & Venues will be announced soon. See below for the 2014 Storytelling Events.

Saturday 29th March

Venue: Lowland Malls Tobago
11:00am – 12:30pm
Storyteller: Thelma Perkins
Story: Rock fishing at Bloody Bay
A group of children go rock fishing at Bloody Bay. They catch more than they expected.


Saturday 5th April

Venue: BPTT Mayaro Resource Centre

Story: One-legged George and his Dog
One-legged George and his dog transported travellers across the Ortoire River. How did he become a ferryman?

Story: A Big Wish Granted
A homeless child finds refuge. What is his story? How did he find a safe home?

Story: The Story of the Toco Lighthouse
Why is a lighthouse built? When and why was this one built? How many steps does it have? What did the builders see from the top? Why was its name changed?

Story: The Story of St Dominic’s
How was the St Dominic’s home started? What notable people were raised there?

Story: When Sugar was King
When Sugar was King people worked in many jobs, from planting to production. Someone remembers then and now.

Story: The Unknown Legend of Siparia
The town has many legends but there is one that nobody knows about.

Saturday 26th April

Venue: Children’s Library, NALIS Port of Spain
Time: 11.00am – 1:00pm
Storyteller: Lylah Persad
Story: How Kevon and Aurora won the poetry competition


Method:  The storyteller will give a story then follow with a question and answer on said presentation and story creation. Children should come prepared to tell these stories with the others.  The stories will be collected for a book.
