EWWC 2014

The 2013 NGC Bocas Lit Fest is proud to be part of the Edinburgh World Writers’ Conference (EWWC), celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the 1962 International Writers Conference in Edinburgh.

In 1962, in the midst of the Edinburgh Festival of Music and Drama, a literary conference erupted. Writers from Scotland, England, the United States, Germany, and India put on such spirited debates, the EWWC refers to that first meeting as “the infamous Writers’ Conference of 1962”.

To commemorate fifty years of exciting exchanges about words, books, and ideas, the EWWC is taking its show on the road in 2012 and 2013. The NGC Bocas Lit Fest is one of fourteen sites around the world that hosted EWWC events. Other participating cities include Cape Town, Brussels, Jaipur, St Malo, Beijing, and Toronto.

On 27 and 28 April, two panels of writers from the Caribbean, the UK, and elsewhere considered the themes A National Literature? and Should Literature Be Political?

The conversation continues around the world throughout 2013, with regular livestreaming of events worldwide, videos, and blogs. Join in and have your say.
