The Trinidad Dougla: Identity, Ethnicity and Lexical Choice is the first in depth study on Douglas. The book is an attempt to give recognition and voice to a group of biracial individuals who in spite of their growing numbers have remained a voiceless minority group. The recognition is first seen on page xiv when a clear decision is made to employ the upper case orthographic convention <D> to mark the start of the ethnonym. The presentation of the six case studies allow Dougla individuals to disclose and voice their somewhat heart rendering stories which expose the dilemma faced by some biracial individuals.

Author Bio

Ferne Louanne Regis is a practitioner of sociocultural linguistics. She received her formal undergraduate and postgraduate training at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus. She has taught at the tertiary level for the past 16 years and loves her work but she is most passionate about her family. She is married to Louis Regis and they share their lives with their two beautiful and talented children Kosi and Kaya.
